Indications
Alkaliser Syrup is used for:
Used for the treatment of
Urinary tract infection, Kidney stones, Uremic acidosis, Burning micturition, Acidosis following diarrhoea, Renal tubular acidosis
Adult Dose
Adults : 15 ml to 30 ml two to three times per day, after dissolving in water
Child Dose
Children above 13 years : 15 ml to 30 ml two to three times per day, after dissolving in water
Children from 7 years to 12 years: 5 ml three times per day
Infants & children up to 7 years: 2 ml three times per day
Renal Dose
Administration
Should be taken with food. Take plenty of water and juices with the medicine.
Contra Indications
Contraindicated in patients with sodium-restricted diets, with severe renal impairment, or known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Precautions
Patients should be directed to dilute adequately with water and preferably, to take each dose after meals to avoid saline laxative effect. Sodium salts should be used cautiously in patients with cardiac failure, hypertension, impaired renal function, peripheral and pulmonary edema, and toxemia of pregnancy. Periodic examinations and determinations of serum electrolytes, particularly serum bicarbonate level, should be carried out in those patients with renal disease in order to avoid these complications. Hypoventilatory states hypocalcemia, alkalosis, renal disease, neonates, hypertension, heart failure, odema, electrolytes imbalance.

Side effects of DIsodium Hydrogen Citrate :
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain may occur. Cramping in stomach,Flatulence,Diuresis (Excess production of urine),Anxiety,Gastrointestinal ulceration,Diarrhea,Deficiency of potassium in blood,Tiredness,Mood swings
Mechanism of Action
Sodium citrate is absorbed and metabolized to sodium bicarbonate, thus acting as a systemic alkalizer. The effects are essentially those of chlorides before absorption and those of bicarbonates subsequently. Oxidation is virtually complete so that less than 5% of sodium citrate is excreted in the urine unchanged. Disodium Hydrogen Citrate works by neutralizing the excess acid in the blood and urine.It is also used as acidity regulator and sequestrat.
