Indications

CESONE OINTMENT is used for: Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, Secondary skin infections

Adult Dose

Topical/Cutaneous Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, Secondary skin infections Adult: Apply thinly and rub gently to affected area bid for up to 2 wk.

Child Dose

Topical/Cutaneous Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, Secondary skin infections Child: >3 mth: Apply thinly and rub gently to affected area bid for up to 2 wk.

Renal Dose

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity

Precautions

Patient w/ untreated cutaneous infection, rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, perianal/genital pruritus, pruritus w/o inflammation. Avoid abrupt withdrawal when switching from systemic to oral or orally inhaled corticosteroid. Moderate to severe hepatic impairment. Childn. Pregnancy and lactation. Monitoring Parameters Monitor hepatic function, ocular changes, growth, possible eosinophilic conditions; signs/symptoms of Candida infection, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression/adrenal insufficiency. Patient w/ extensive burns and wounds.

Interactions

Chloramphenicol may interfere w/ the antibacterial action of mupirocin in RNA synthesis.

Adverse Effects

Side effects of Fluticasone Propionate + Mupirocin Topical : Burning, stinging, pruritus, pain, rash, erythema, dry skin, tenderness, cellulitis, pain or bleeding secondary to eczema, secondary wound infection, urticaria, swelling, increased exudates, contact dermatitis, furunculosis, exfoliative dermatitis. Rarely, systemic reactions (e.g. nausea, headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, ulcerative stomatitis, systemic allergic reactions).

Mechanism of Action

Fluticasone utilises a fluorocarbothioate ester linkage at the 17 carbon position. It has potent vasoconstrictive and anti-inflammatory activity, but weak hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) inhibitory effect when applied topically. Mupirocin inhibits protein synthesis of the bacteria by binding to isoleucyl transfer ribonucleic acid (RNA)-synthetase. It has bacteriostatic properties at Min inhibitory concentrations and bactericidal properties at the higher concentrations.
