Indications

Dermitop Ointment is used for: Used to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm infections.

Adult Dose

Topical/Cutaneous Superficial dermatophyte infections, Allergic inflammatory skin disease, Skin fungal infections Apply thin film to affected skin areas 2 times daily.

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Tuberculosis and most viral lesion of the skin, particularly herpes simplex, vaccinia and varicella.

Precautions

Can stain fabric and skin. Avoid contact with eyes; avoid prolonged use. Not effective in the treatment of fungal infections of the scalp or nails. Discontinue if local irritation, rash, sensitivity occur. Similar effect to systemic steroid therapy may occur in large amount use or long-term therapy by occlusive dressing technique (ODT). Local adverse effect eg, skin atrophy, facial erythema may occur. Manifestations hypersensitivity eg, itching, flare, vesicle and urticaria may occur. Discontinue using if these reactions occur. Do not use in overdosage or ODT in prolonged period of therapy. Do not use in the eyes. Discontinue use in case of no improvements or condition worsens; as soon as possible improvements happen. Use in pregnancy & lactation.

Adverse Effects

Side effects of Betamethasone + Gentamicin + Tolnaftate + Iodochlorhydroxyquinoline + Chlorocresol : Severe irritation or hypersensitivity. Cross-sensitivity with other halogenated hydroxyquinolines. May discolour fair hair. Continuous application without interruption may result in local atrophy of the skin, striae and superficial vascular dilation. Rarely, patients may experience local mild burning or irritation. Potentially Fatal: May cause severe neurotoxicity.

Mechanism of Action

Betamethasone dipropionate is a synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid. It is active topically and produces a rapid and sustained response in those inflammatory dermatoses that are normally responsive to topical corticosteroid therapy. Gentamicin sulfate is a bactericidal antibiotic active against a wide variety of pathogenic gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Tolnaftate is an antifungal which inhibits growth of dermatophytes e.g. Epidermophyton, Microsporum, trichophyton spp, and Malassezia furfur by distorting the hyphae and stopping mycelial growth. It is inactive against Candida spp or bacteria. Clioquinol is a halogenated hydroxyquinoline with antibacterial and antifungal activity.
