Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain may occur. Cramping in stomach,Flatulence,Diuresis (Excess production of urine),Anxiety,Gastrointestinal ulceration,Diarrhea,Deficiency of potassium in blood,Tiredness,Mood swings
Mechanism of Action
Sodium citrate is absorbed and metabolized to sodium bicarbonate, thus acting as a systemic alkalizer. The effects are essentially those of chlorides before absorption and those of bicarbonates subsequently. Oxidation is virtually complete so that less than 5% of sodium citrate is excreted in the urine unchanged. Disodium Hydrogen Citrate works by neutralizing the excess acid in the blood and urine. It is also used as acidity regulator and sequestrat.
