Mechanism of Action
Magaldrate is a hydroxymagnesium aluminate complex that is rapidly converted in gastric acid to magnesium and aluminium hydroxide, which is poorly absorbed and provides a sustained antacid effect with balanced efects on intestinal motility; increases lower esophageal sphincter tone and inhibits smooth muscle contraction and gastric emptying.
Simethicone allows gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines to come together more easily, which allows for easier passage of gas.
Alginic acid is used in combination with an antacid or histamine H2-antagonist in the management of gastro-esophageal reflux disease. It reacts with gastric acid to form a viscous gel which acts as a mechanical barrier to reduce reflux.
