Indications
Propine Solution is used for:
Ocular hypertension, Open-angle glaucoma
Adult Dose
Ophthalmic

Adult: As hydrochloride: Instil 1 drop of 0.1% soln in the eye/s every 12 hr.

Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity. Patients with narrow angles, since any pupillary dilatation may cause an attack of angle-closure glaucoma.
Precautions
Aphakic patients; lactation.
Pregnancy-Lactation
Interactions
Additive ocular hypotensive effects with other anti-glaucoma drugs.
Adverse Effects
Side effects of Dipivefrine Hydrochloride eye prep :
Ocular hyperaemia, burning, stinging, irritation, follicular conjunctivitis, mydriasis, allergic reactions, adrenochrome deposits in the conjunctiva and cornea, headache, browache and eye pain. Very rarely, tachycardia and hypertension may occur.
Potentially Fatal: Generally well tolerated. Side effects fewer when compared to epinephrine drops.
Mechanism of Action
Dipivefrine is a prodrug of adrenaline. It reduces IOP by decreasing aqueous production and by enhancing outflow.
