Diacerein
Indications
Diacerein is used for:
Osteoarthritis, Musculoskeletal and joint disorders
Adult Dose
Oral
Osteoarthritis
Adult: 50 mg bid.
Child Dose
Renal Dose
Renal impairment:
CrCl (ml/min) Dosage Recommendation
<30 25 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food. Take w/ or immediately after meals.
Contra Indications
Pregnancy, lactation. Hypersensitivity to anthraquinone derivatives.
Precautions
Renal impairment. Monitor CBC, LFT and urinalysis every 6 mth.
Pregnancy-Lactation
Interactions
Decreased absorption with aluminium and/or magnesium hydroxide antacids. Increased risk of diarrhoea with laxatives, antibiotics. Avoid co-admin with fibres and phytates.
Adverse Effects
Side effects of Diacerein :
Diarrhoea, epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, intense yellow colouring of urine.
Mechanism of Action
Diacerein is an anthraquinone derivative that has been used in osteoarthritis. It is thought to act via inhibition of interleukin-1β.
