Procaine hydrochloride + Magnesium chloride + Potassium chloride

Indications

Procaine hydrochloride + Magnesium chloride + Potassium chloride is used for: Indicated in cardiopulmonary bypass & open-heart surgery to induce ischaemic cardiac arrest.

Adult Dose

Injection The cold, diluted solution is administered by rapid instillation at a rate of about 300ml/m2 body surface area/ minute, for 3 times initially.

Ampoule contents must be diluted before use (20ml is added to 1litre of Ringer solution). The solution is cooled (2-8 degree celsius).

Contra Indications

Pregnancy, Children, Hypersensitivity.

Precautions

Physicians familiar with the cardiac surgery should only use this drug, Monitor ECG continuously during the procedure, Use appropriate equipment.

Side effects of Procaine hydrochloride + Magnesium chloride + Potassium chloride : Arrhythmias, Ventricular fibrillation, Myocardial infarction, Delayed recovery, Absence of recovery

Mechanism of Action

It temporarily stops heart for cardiac surgery; induce cardiac arrest using drug and assisted by cold. Procaine hydrochloride, an anesthetic drug, is indicated for the induction of spinal anesthesia. In addition with a vasoconstrictor, Procaine hydrochloride can promote local hemostasis, increase duration of anesthesia and delay systemic absorption of the drug.
