Theophylline + Terbutaline

Indications

Theophylline + Terbutaline is used for: Chronic bronchospasm

Adult Dose

Oral Chronic bronchospasm Adult: 1-3 tab in divided doses 6-8 hrly. As modified-release preparation: 1-2 tab 12 hrly.

Child Dose

Oral Chronic bronchospasm As modified-release preparation: Child: <6 yr Not recommended; 6-12 yr 20-35 kg: 1/2 tab bid; >12 yr 1 tab bid.

Renal Dose

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity. Porphyria.

Precautions

Patient w/ peptic ulceration, hyperthyroidism, DM, glaucoma, severe hypoxemia, epilepsy, HTN, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias or other CV disease, acute febrile illness, COPD, cor pulmonale; smokers. Hepatic or renal impairment. Elderly and childn. Pregnancy and lactation. Monitoring Parameters Monitor heart rate, CNS effects, resp rate, arterial or capillary blood gases, theophylline levels. Monitor cardiorespiratory function, serum K and glucose levels; signs/symptoms of pulmonary oedema (when used in premature labour).
